Inclement Weather Policy:

If a snow emergency is declared or in effect in either Baltimore City or Baltimore County as of noon or later on the day of our meeting, the scheduled meeting will be cancelled. Snow emergencies lifted before noon will not cancel a meeting. Refer to the Maryland Coordinated Highway Action Response Team (CHART) website for the latest snow emergency information.

The Maryland Orchid Society Mourns the Death of Dr. Mark Robbins.

With profound sadness, we must report the sudden and unexpected death of long-time member Dr. Mark Robbins. Mark was a stellar and clever grower, generous with both his knowledge and his plants. Most importantly, he was a good and dear friend. We are missing him and will miss him for a long, long time. A brief review of his awesome life and contributions is included in this month's newsletter.

Maryland Orchid Society — Meeting Thursday, September 17 by Zoom

The Maryland Orchid Society will meet by Zoom on Thursday, September 17, from 7 p.m. until done. A secure, encrypted link has been sent by e-mail to members. WATCH YOUR E-MAIL! The connection is password-protected and is safe. Given that this is our first attempt, and on a pretty big scale for starters, there will likely be humorous glitches. Be patient, be kind. There is already one change from the Newsletter. The Education Corner may be postponed or cancelled.

We even have a virtual showtable!! Fay has put together a show table of submitted photos, which can be downloaded as a PowerPoint Presentation or as a PDF here.

Appropriately, the speaker will be Clark Riley, talking about Using Internet Resources to Enhance Your Orchid Growing Experience. It should be a light and lively participation talk! See the newsletter for details.

Note: KEEP THIS E-MAIL UP ON YOUR COMPUTER WHEN YOU LOG IN. Clark's internet access has been a little flakey, with a repair scheduled for Friday. IF the connection should be lost, he will immediately shift to a hotspot, but you may need to log in again after a couple of minutes. Ah, the joys of being a geek!

Following best medical practices in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Woodbrook Church is closed for the safe future. The attached newsletter has lots of information for an orchid world that continues to bloom.
We look forward to gathering again in person on the other side of the Coronavirus Pandemic.
In the mean time, use the opportunity to preen and enjoy your plants. Keep healthy. Avail yourself of best practices at the Centers for Disease Control and prevention site at CDC.gov.
