The Maryland Orchid Society meets the third Thursday of the month beginning at 7 p.m. See the Meetings page for a full timetable.

Inclement Weather Policy:

     If a snow emergency is declared or in effect in either Baltimore City or Baltimore County as of noon or later on the day of our meeting, the scheduled meeting will be cancelled. Snow emergencies lifted before noon will not cancel a meeting. Refer to the Maryland Coordinated Highway Action Response Team (CHART) website for the latest snow emergency information.
     We will distribute an email message to members confirming a cancellation as soon as it is known. Information may also be posted on the MOS website.

Big Lip Phalaenopsis, Nancy Mountford, MOS, Thursday, June 20, 2019

     Nancy Mountford, an MOS member and NCOS member, will be the final speaker (at our June 20 meeting) in our 2018-19 program year. Nancy has been growing orchids since 1970, when she was a student at Douglass College of Rutgers University. After graduation from Rutgers, she came to Maryland for graduate studies in Zoology, employment at University of Maryland's Chesapeake Biological Lab, and the founding of Cove Corporation which continues to specialize in the identification of marine invertebrates.
     Nancy is an AOS-accredited judge, and has been active in showing and judging orchids at numerous shows, both domestic and international. She has been engaged in AOS leadership activities, having served as a Trustee and currently serves on their Audit, Finance, and Nominating Committees. Nancy is also a founder of Orchids Dominicana (Orchidom) which was launched in 1996 to produce top-quality orchids to meet the needs of commercial orchid growers and wholesalers in the United States, the Caribbean and Latin America.
     Nancy will be speaking on Big-Lipped Phalaenopsis at our June 20, 2019 meeting, our last meeting prior to the MOS summer vacation.
     Nancy will accept checks as well as cash for plants that were pre-ordered from Orchidom.
